VDS2249R2
High Performance Enterprise Class Storage Powered by NVMe™ over Fabrics Technology
Unleash Ultra-Low Latency Storage at Scale
The VDS2249R2 from Viking Enterprise Solutions delivers exceptional NVMe performance over Ethernet fabrics, enabling hyperscale efficiency and agility for enterprise data architectures. Designed for disaggregated storage environments, it supports high-throughput, low-latency workloads such as AI/ML, high-frequency trading, and database acceleration with advanced scalability and high availability.
The VDS2249R2 houses twenty-four 2.5-inch U.2 (SFF8639) NVMe™ SSDs and up to six 2×100 GbE QSFP28 ports, offering high-speed, low-latency network access via RDMA (RoCE v1/v2) and TCP. Two integrated fabric modules feature PCIe Gen 4 switches and three add-in card slots each, supporting a wide range of half-height, half-length Ethernet fabric adapters (up to 70W).
This solution employs third-party, NVMe-oF bridge add-in cards and multiple 100GbE network connections for NVMe-oF™ access to the drives. The entirety of the NVMe-oF target protocol is handled in hardware, eliminating the need for a host CPU. This design results in exceptional performance with remarkably low overall latency.
A robust management interface provides complete visibility and control over the enclosure and fabric through a unified web GUI, including status indicators for temperature, voltage, fan speed, and installed FRUs. Fabric management is securely isolated via an out-of-band interface between the BMC and fabric adapters, ensuring only authorized hosts access designated NVMe subsystems.

Use Cases
The VDS2249R2 is ideal for a wide range of enterprise use cases, including:
- Shared Storage Pools: NVMe-oF allows multiple servers to access a shared pool of high-performance NVMe storage, enabling efficient resource utilization and flexibility.
- High-Performance Computing (HPC): Applications that demand extremely low latency and high bandwidth, such as AI, machine learning, and data analytics, benefit greatly from NVMe-oF’s capabilities.
- Data Center Scalability: It provides a way to scale storage independently from compute, enabling data centers to grow efficiently and meet increasing performance demands.
- Real-Time Applications: Applications requiring real-time data processing, like financial trading or video streaming, can leverage NVMe-oF for its low latency.
- Disaggregated Storage: NVMe-oF supports the disaggregation of storage resources, meaning storage can be managed and scaled independently of compute resources. This increases flexibility and reduces stranded capacity.
